Winter Proof Your Skin

Freezing weather, chilling winds, and low humidity are common winter enemies for your skin, leaving you with a dry, irritated, dull and flaky complexion. There are preemptive measures you can take to ensure glowing, radiant skin even in the coldest time of year!
When it's snowing outside, nothing sounds better than coming home and soaking in a steaming hot tub. But if you want to avoid flaky, dry skin, you have to start by replacing long, hot showers or baths with shorter, cooler ones. Also, add bath oil to your water, if you prefer baths, to retain your skin's natural moisture.

Once you are out of the water, apply a generous amount of moisturizer to seal in the moisture. If you plan to go outside, use a heavy layer of broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF30 on any skin that may be exposed. This will act as a barrier to help protect against the harsh elements and is especially important if you will be outside for any length of time. Sunscreen is important in winter as the sun's reflective power intensifies in the snow.
And don't forget about your lips. Chapped lips are often the most noticeable problem in the winter, so remember to use a highly moisturizing lip balm which provides a protective barrier, with vitamin E for good elasticity.

For some, dry skin may still occur, so it may become necessary to exfoliate twice a week with a gentle exfoliating scrub. This will remove dead cells and allow the skin to absorb extra moisture. Also, remember to drink eight classes of water a day to continuously hydrate your body from inside, out. Check out the Water Diet for more on the benefits of water.
With the heat on and the windows closed, the air inside can become very dry in the winter. To combat the lack of humidity in the air during the winter, use a humidifier. By using a humidifier, you are increasing the moisture in the air and keeping your skin from drying and becoming cracked and itchy.
Follow these simple measures and you can expect soft, silky skin year round!

Do you have any recommendations what to do when I travel and all of a sudden I realize that I do not have my special sunscreen with me. Is it okay to use just any cream suitable for normal skin (like mine) or it's better not to use any cream if I can not find my brand and type?
